Wee mousie

I saw something stirring in the grass right at the verge of the trail. It was a wee mouse, snuffling along, I suppose foraging ...? I'm not sure if it's a field mouse or a vole. My daughter could tell me, but I forgot to ask. Just right at the corner of the picture you can see the edge of the asphalted trail, in between dead leaves of grass. So it was that close to the multi-use path. The mouse was even out on the pavement at one point, then back in the grass but tail still draped out there. As I stepped back to get enough distance for my lens (rather than take the teleconverter off, which can be a bit noisy and might have scared the mouse away) a cyclist came speeding by from the far end of the street and flashed by between me and the mouse, wheels right on the edge of the pavement. I thought for a second the mouse would be run over, or else scurry away. Neither happened. Neither mouse nor cyclist seemed to notice one another, but they managed not to kill or be killed either. Whew!
