Western Grebe
Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline at about 35m.

This may or may not be "normal" for grebes, but it was a double-new for us: 1) grebe out of water, and 2) grebe standing-up. Just seemed so odd him standing there, occasionally grooming, alone on a spit of mud at super low tide.

Lovely detailed image of this grebe Calvin, never seen the Western one before! tfs it!!

A fabulous study of this grebe, Kevin. I don't think I have ever seen one out of the water.

A first for me too Calvin. I have photos of them standing on a nest but never in mud. This is awesome, well done!
