Thank you Vicki/ducbucln, very kind. I was experimenting with camera settings that morning.

I was actually on a long walk to try to see my local White-Tailed Kites (who were a no-show), and the first couple hours after sunrise are almost invariably overcast and gloomy, particularly the morning of this photo.

I have grown to like the flat, even lighting (sometimes) because of the aesthetics of the evenly-lit animal. Besides, it's very Northern California Coast, at least as I've grown-up knowing it. ||
