Western Rattlesnake
I'm told this is a female... She was about 4 feet from my front door one morning. I think she had designs on the birds that were taking advantage of a little makeshift birdbath Hubby had put on the ground under the large oak tree in our front yard.

Thanks, TMan, Chris & Rose! What got to me was how QUICK she was able to totally disappear! I was understandably cautious going outside right after I took this photo. Me and 2 other people scoured the area -- every nook and cranny -- to make sure she wasn't just hiding nearby and she was GONE!
