They're great birds, aren't they.... always seem to be smiling LOL.

A super picture you've got of this one ... I mostly only see them in the winter too. In need of a bit of a lesson... why do you think this one is a male?

Oooh! Right.... now I can see what you're seeing, I wonder if you're right. It certainly does have some very dark plumage at the back end.

I would never have given this one a second look in the field, just passing it off as a female. You really are very observant lass.

thanks guys for commenting.i looked up a little further on id and the yellow eye says male.birding is great and even better when we can share and learn.still think male but always learning.many tfs on comments.all the best margaret.
