hazarding a wild guess,
from a point of almost
total ignorance on the
subject, 'the Aussies have
added the pied to its name,
to differentiate it from the
all-black sooty oystercatcher,
and it is in fact the same
bird as ours. Regardless,
as a rose by any other name
would smell as sweet, so this
bird and your photo the same.
