Wheeee! (Corvus corone corone)

This Crow seemed to be enjoying itself. Having stolen a mussel from some Oystercatchers on the rock pools it proceeded to soar 12-15m before dropping it onto the beach to break it open. Not the brightest of sparks though as it was dropping it onto the only sandy patch in the area! After a while whenever it released it the gulls moved in causing it to chase after the mussel catching it again in mid air. Eventually it lost it and had to go back to pestering the Oystercatchers. Certainly entertaining to watch.

The Carrion Crows in Helensburgh where my father lives are much smarter than this one. They collect their own mussels and drop them onto rocks or asphalt.

Two good uns Ian, I've seen these birds do a similar thing on the beach here.

Crows are usually so smart, this guy must be in the remedial class at school, :-O still he gave you a lot of joy and a great shot as well.

Good behavioural shot, Ian, entertaining indeed ... carrion crows in the parklot outside my office regularly do that, they just wait for a passing car and drop nuts just before it ... the less smart ones drop it on the bonnet (of my car) ;)
