When...
.... you can't find the subject through the viewfinder. I had to look for a landmark in the field (which was a bit distant). Aim for it, and hope the subject was in view and reasonably focused

The landmark I chose was the thistle - I'd not seen the youngster on the other side of it until I downloaded the picture! LOL

I can't believe this is only the second Curlew image I've got in the Gallery!

Focusing on the thistle certainly turned out to be a good strategy, Delia. You did very well to get the chick in the frame too. Great shot!
