The species is characterized by stable population trend and extent of occurrence of more than 20 thousand km2.
15165 cm. Distinctive minivet, with plumage somewhat reminiscent of that of a stonechat (Saxicola). Male nominate race has glossy blue-black head.
Sweet, high-pitched notes, thi, tuee, chi, tschi, tchu-it .
Food mainly insects, including grasshoppers (Orthoptera), also spiders (Araneae).
