Niels,

Now I am considering buying a G85... the issue is the lens. I like the form factor of the 100-300, but sample images are not as sharp as I'd like. The 100-400 is sharper but at 2x the weight and price. Part of me does not like attention-getting gear that says "hey, look at my expensive camera!"

I would myself go G9 or one of the olympus cameras if I was buying today. The G9 is considerably cheaper now than it was when I purchased the G85.

I do not think the lens I use is as attention-grabbing as a lot of the lenses I see used on Canon or Nikon for example.

The sharpness of my output has improved with the latest update of the software I am using. I should go back and see how far I can stretch one of the old images from the 100-300 mm lens.

I agree on all points you make...

The PL 100-400 is not like a big white bazooka, for sure. Also, software can do a lot. I am looking at sample images and I am wondering how much is post-processing skill vs. the equipment itself.

As I learn to do more with my bridge camera, it pushes my expectations for the next camera I buy. There has to be enough of a "wow" factor to make the extra $1-2K worth spending.
