White-crested Coquette
These guys love Porterweed (shown in photo) and back then there was a tall hedge of the stuff close by the Garden House observatory and Cafe. It was always full of a large variety of hummers. Never knew which way to look next.
Habitat
Higher elevations, gardens, porterweed, disturbed forest edges.
Location
Garden House Observatory and CafeGarden, just past Rivas near the head of the Chiripo trail, Costa Rica. I find this place to be magical.

Thanks Kits, they are a delightful bird to see up close. They can be fearless and have been known to buzz around ones face and person. They know where our faces are and will hover a handbreadths away making eye contact. Lots of fun!
