White-eared Hummingbird
The owners of the lodge kindly allowed us to watch from their front porch for this stake-out rarity. I believe this is an immature male starting preformative molt. Very common in the mountains of Mexico and Middle America, this species is a scarce visitor to Arizona although apparently increasing. This is presumably the race "B. l. borealis" which is larger and has more white and less green on its underparts than nominate. Formerly placed in the genera "Trochilus" or "Hylocharis."

A great image of this seldom seen Hummingbird Joseph.
Less than a couple of dozen images of this White-eared Hummingbird in the Gallery's history.

A wonderfully detailed and posed capture of this rarity, Joseph.
