White-rumped Monjita (Xolmis velata)

A very common bird in rural lands. They are known in Brazil as "noivinha-branca", which literally means "white little fiance" (doesn't sound too good in English ;)).
Location
Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil
Date taken
July 4, 2007
Scientific name
Xolmis velata
Equipment used
Sony DSC H9

Outstanding shot, Jaoa. Some phrases just sound better in a romantic language than in English. Beautiful bird.

Many thanks all!
Many birds have a simbolical, folklorical, name here in Brazil. By translating an English bird name literally to Portuguese, you'll hardly get to somewhere. This one, for example, would turn out to be "monjita-de-uropgio-branco" (we really don't have a name for monjita, the word itself allone) or "monjita-de-sobre-branco".
