Whooping cranes following ultralight (Grus americana)

I visited Crex Meadows, WI last summer to see the highly endangered whooping cranes. Here the chicks are being trained to follow the ultralight, which will lead them in migration to Florida. They are very strict about protecting the cranes so we were in a blind and it was difficult to get photos. See Operation Migration for more info about the program.
Habitat
sand plain/pine barrens
Location
Crex Meadows, WI
Date taken
17-AUG-2007
Scientific name
Grus americana
Equipment used
Canon EOS 30D ,Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS USM
Definitely recommended if you get the chance to visit. They offer a tour where you can go see the guys dressed up costumes feeding the chicks and training them in the ultralights. If you look closely, you can see the pilot is dressed in the white costume.
