Wild orchids

An old quarry, now filled with water, had been turned into a lovely park. It was the only place we saw these wild orchids, and the fields around the little lake were packed with them. Son-in-love said there are three species that are practically impossible to tell apart and this is one of them, so I'll leave it unidentified.

Sorry, no birds today. Next day on the walk I did get some bird shots again, but for this day I'll just have to enjoy yours. They'll give me the breaks I need as I push on reading a very difficult book.

Looks great even unindentified,Doc. What's the point of being different if you can't tell them apart? ;);

Fabulous find and a brilliant pictue Doc! It is always a pleasure to run across orchids in the wild. TFS!!!!

Marsh Orchid of some sort? Nice find anyway Doc!

ps son-in-love, lol, I like it! :t:

Looks to me as though this might be the hybrid between Northern Marsh and Common Spotted, known as Dactylorhiza x venusta. I might be wrong, I often am, but the flower shape and the characteristic chopped off top to the flower spike suggest this hybrid.
