Woodpecker flight

Woodpecker flight (Dendrocopos major)

Got up early this morning for a call of nature then went to have a look in the garden. Seen the Woodie on one of our trees so grabbed the camera to take a shot. Just as I was pushing the shutter button it took off and this is the result. I was totally unprepared, and it is. My first flight shot of a Woodpecker and probably my last. It is a pity it is not sharper, as I say the camera was not properly set up, it was 5.45 am (poor light) so not bad IMO considering.

Robert,
it's difficult enough trying to get a pecker stationary in a tree with out trying for one in flight, you did well.

Robert L!! lol must take my camera to the outside loo, I reckon I could get some great one handed Sparrow images!! seriously Woodpeckers always seem to take of in the wrong direction for a good image,so you did great :t::t::t:

Robert, full marks for opportunism. :t: Now, what I want to know is did you do the "dancy jig" when you realised what you had captured? ;)
