Worm Moon

The "Worm" supermoon setting in the west. What looks like a flock of birds in the air is probably what we call "fjrmygg", some species or other of Chironomidae flies, non-biting midges. They're the only family of insects found in the Antarctic and can hatch here even in winter in snow melt puddles.

Tough insects and they appear to be quite large since they show up nicely in your lens. Marvelous picture of the worm moon. Yes, I thought they were birds (lol). TFS Doc!

Goodness... I've never heard of a 'worm moon' before, nor those midges!

What an amazing picture you've taken of it Ann. Another something new I've learnt.

They must be huge insects! A very effective capture, Ann.
