WTEA catches a flounder

WTEA catches a flounder (Haliaeetus albicilla)

Two years ago, Delia came to visit hoping to see three target birds: Spotted Nutcrackers, Bluethroat, and White-tailed Eagle. We managed all three, but now I regret that we just chanced it on the WTEA. We came to Smla archipelago, which has the biggest population of WTEAs in the world, I gather (WTEAs from here have even been exported to Scotland to repopulate the species there). One outfit here offers WTEA safaris in the form of 2-hour pelagics. But we didn't manage to book that (perhaps they were booked up?) and instead just took our chances on seeing on from land ... which we did in the end. Delia spotted one flying over us when we'd stopped to watch some Starlings. But today hubby and I did the pelagic, and OMG! So even though the WiFi at our hotel is frustratingly slow, and even though I won't be able to catch up browsing until I get home again, I can't resist posting some of these shots before I head for bed. Today's three are pretty amazing, but not the best of the 400 or so shots I took (I think over half of those of the 6 WTEAs we saw). These 3 are all heavy crops. This one, for instance, seemed not to be going for the fish the guides had tossed out, so they decided to putter on out to the next eagle territory. But then the eagle dove for a fish after all, just not the frozen mackerel they'd tossed for him. Oh no! This feinschmecker wanted fresh flounder instead ;)

Oh my goodness Ann... that's a cracker of a picture lass.

Maybe the trips weren't running when I was with you? Remember it was the end of the season there, and things were closing down?
