Yacare Caiman
Yacare Caiman (Caiman yacare: Alligatoridae) This Caiman was ca 200 m from any water nestled down in the grass. I saw it only after it raised up. I assume it would have taken off if I kept walking towards it but I gave it a wide birth and it continued to stand up on its feet watching me for some time. South Wild, south of Pocon, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Cerrado adjacent to the Pixaim River with adjacent riparian woods and scattered riverine wetlands at ca. 128 m (420 ft) elevation.

Oh my, you were brave to keep walking. An outstanding capture that shows great details, especially the teeth.

Wow! Fantastic shot! Glad he raised up his head in time so you made that "wide berth". Those jaws look like they could do some serious damage :eek!:
