It's odd, this tree is half a mile from the nearest permanent water. I've read that night herons nest near or over water, sometimes in colonies, and this spot doesn't fit the bill. This is the only place I've ever seen these, I don't ever see them at the river. Maybe they don't like the cattle egrets living in the best heron-nesting trees?

I love that display and his plumes shooting up all over the place LOL. You did a right grand job of focusing through all the branches too Tired.
