Yellow-hooded Blackbird (Chrysomus icterocephalus icterocephalus)

This is a local and generally uncommon bird along the upper Amazon. They have an peculiar distribution being found in Peru and Brazil only along the Amazon and its tributaries where they seem to specialize in river-created islands. This is a male. Females are browner. Like many Icterids, this species is polygynous with males mating with more than one female. However, unlike other blackbird species, only the male builds the nest.
