Yellow-tufted Woodpecker (Melanerpes cruentatus) Species sexually dimorphic. Female on the left, male on the right. Not the sky one wishes for when photographing birds (lol). North of Valladolid, Zamora-Chinchipe Province, Ecuador. Working on excavating a nest hole in a snag. Transitional zone between a secondary cloud forest (wet temperate montane forest) above and dry Tumbesian forest below ca. 1,219 m (4,000 ft) elevation.
