Yellow Wagtail

Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla flava flavissima)

The dung-heap is like a motorway service station for migrants, the amount of flies is amazing, as too is the number of birds feasting on them. This Yellow Wagtail was snatching the flies out of the air.

Dung heap
Location
Ashwell, Hertfordshire
Date taken
27th April 2006
Scientific name
Motacilla flava flavissima

I used to see loads of Yellow wags in April and May on migration through Cheshire but I haven't seen one in years. Very sad.
Superb shot!
