Young Formosan Macaque
Formosan Macaque (5-12kg).

Came across a troop of Formosan Macaques in Anmashan in June. They were at an altitude of about 2200m. This youngster was curious and stayed around to check me out.

Aside from humans (genus Homo), the macaques are the most widespread primate genus, ranging from northern Africa to Japan. Twenty-two macaque species are currently recognised. The Formosan Macaque is endemic to Taiwan and the only monkey found on Taiwan.

Wooded areas and forests up to 3000m
Location
Anmashan, Taichung County, Taiwan.

Nice capture of this wee guy Mark!!!

I saw the endemic Toque Macaque on Sri Lanka both as highland & lowland races -the highland race had longer fur and a different haircut!
