Nice detail and good lighting. I'd just crop off some part on the top to make it a horizontal composition.

Hi Rufus. I think it probably is an escapee. I've never seen them this far south before. Still, made a nice change from the hundreds of sparrows.

I guess what I was hinting at was that this is not the wild-type. A bird this colour in the wild would be likely to be picked off PDQ by a raptor, like a yellow budgie in a flock of normals.

Also, the other pic is of one of those mutants favoured by aviculturists.

But I agree, a welcome change! Like a cockatiel from one of my neighbours, which spent a day in a big gum at the back of my yard.

I wouldn't mid a few exotic escapees in my garden, at present we have about 20 sparrows and 8 blackbirds and one eastern spinebill. Beautiful photo.

A beautiful shot smp! I agree that it is probably an aviary escapee, and if so, I wish it luck - and a few other Zebra Finches for company! :-O Thanks for sharing it with us.

Great shot. I agree it's an escapee. I would say it's also an adult because the bill is orange, all juveniles regardless of plumage color have black bills.
