I will be staying in this area next week and will be hoping to see as many birds as possible. Can anyone please let me know whether we will still be likely to see peregrines from Yat Rock as I understand there were problems with the nest this year. Also any helpful pointers for other birds in the area will be greatly appreciated - I have heard there are goshawks in the area. Thanks

Hi there,

The Yat Rock Peregrines have failed to breed this year but the birds are resident and are still likely to be seen from the viewpoint. Yat Rock is now an extremely reliable place for Goshawk sightings and juveniles have been showing well there over the last week or so. It's worth spending at least a couple of hours at this site since raptors can appear seemingly out of thin air and it's possible to see several species without having to try too hard. Also, keep an eye out for Spotted Flycatchers in the trees directly below the viewpoint.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip.
