B&H Photo lists the above as temporarily out of stock. I thought they were discontinued. Anyone confirm that the 8x32 SE still being manufactured.

as far as I know, SEs are still in production, but at some vendor they are only available on special order...I asked SEs availabiltiy from Cameraland, they said it has to be specially ordered (Cameraland dont list them in their website though)...and I saw Opticsplanet sell them for $614 in their site...

gwsudiro is exactly right! They are a special order item only at this point but I am sure B & H will restock at some point. Check out Mosquito Creek Outdoors in Apopka, FL to see if they have any stock left! Best of luck to you!

NYCV has a pair of new 8x32 SE's on ebay for $490. This is the same dealer outside of Philadelphia I found all the Nikon EII's at as well as some SE's last summer, and which many BF members bought. Their website is www.nycv.com and you could probably get them cheaper directly from them since they wouldn't have to pay the ebay fees. They are a very good outfit as I made arrangements for another BF member to buy both an 8x32 and 10x42 SE from them.

My impression is that they are more "special production run" than "special order." If they were special order, the big names would be foolish not to keep a few on hand. Anyone reading BF would be tempted, wouldn't they. But none are readily available, at least not in NA.
I bought my 8x SE's in 2008 (I think; I can check) when Eagle Optics had a "special order" of them. They didn't last long, and EO hasn't had them since, and near as I can tell nobody much else has either.
So my guess is a "backorder" will sit and sit and sit until Nikon decides it's worth a production run.
I could be entirely wrong (wouldn't be the first time) but that's my impression.

Mike doesn't have to worry about all that since he bought my 505xx 8x32 SE before he flew off to Ecuador to watch some Toucans. The only Toucan I've seen is on the front of a Fruit Loops box!

It's hard to ignore information from the "horse's mouth". OTOH, if I had a $100 for every time I read an announcement about the demise of the SE, I'd have enough money to buy an SV EL and a CL.
Here's what I know, though I'm not sure if what Nikon told you supersedes this policy. Stores in the US no longer routinely stock SEs. They have to special order them from Japan.
When they have enough orders, they order a new batch. When those disappear, it could be months before the next one arrives. I also noticed that only a handful of dealers order them.
According to Mike Freiberg, our resident Nikon rep, who posted not too long ago, the SEs are still being made, they are just not as readily available in the US as they used to be.
Whatever the case, if you want one, now's the time to buy while they are in stock.

Sounds to me like he was being sarcastic in his remark about them not being on the Website.

Nikon has a bunch of idiots employed. It took me 4 phone calls and a product # to finally get someone to tell me that the SEs are still being made, huh! Anyway i have owned the SE 10s before but never the 8x32s and they will arrive tuesday, can't wait to gaze through them. I have read nothing but great on the performance of these little porros.

I remember when you used to "rassle" around here. Up here in the great north-east. I knew the guy who used to announce the matches. When the event was to start he'd say something like: "AND FROM GRENOBLE, HIGH IN THE ALPS, ANDRE THE GIANT!" And the crowd would go wild!
And when you were introduced he'd say: "AND FROM PARTS UNKNOWN--GORILLA MONSOON!" and the crowd would boo threateningly!

My friend the announcer said you were really a high school principal from New Jersey and "Chief Jay Strongbow" was an Italian from Staten Island. I never believed it.
My friend would meet with Andre the Giant several hours before the match and play cribbage. The Giant had a special cribbage board that used 20 Penny nails for pegs which are 4 inches long and he always had a gallon of claret or some such liquid with him most of which he would consume before the match. He said he was really a Birder at heart but he could never find a binocular that fit his hands.
