Stop The Badger Cull e-petition (1 Viewer)

Surprised this has not received a greater response on the forum. The petition is actually going fairly well with over 30,000 signatures.

And for those inclined to do more, you could also choose where to buy your meat and dairy products :-

I've decided to start my own one man campaign by not buying milk if this cull goes ahead. I currently average 8-12 pints a week all of which is organic.

Does anyone know if organic farms are taking part in this cull, also what would be a good milk substitute? I've tried soya which tastes like rubber & others which taste like white emulsion!

Edit; Not quite a one man campaign after all, Brian May is on the case;

I do work in the TB eradication scheme in the Republic of Ireland. I TB test cattle. Organic farms would be no different to conventional farms here TB testing wise. If a farmer had a breakdown and if the department deemed it fit they would depopulate the local badger population (snaring).

Localised badger culling does not work IMO. The best solution would be badger vaccination, if a workable vaccine can be developed.

Grrrrrr.... at the thought as it makes me feel squeezy at the thought of our native wildlife taking the brunt of non scientific proof that Badgers are the culprits for Bovine as it stands. :-C

Why should our beloved wildlife be used as scapegoats for issues to do with Bovine. I am sure that Bovine is spread through cattle by other means which is more to do with cattle being transferred between farms - bought and sold etc... moved about..bad farmyard practices ..... and so forth.

As it seems that the Badger Cull is noted to be happening, I can see no difference to Bovine as it will be still around, and I will be the one to say...

I TOLD YOU SO, YOU ARE WRONG TO BLAME BADGERS!!!!! :-C:-C

Kathy

Now in excess of 100,000 signatures!

I had a very nice email from Yeo Valley, the organic milk & yogurt people saying that they badger-proofed their land some years ago & have no intention of being part of the cull so I'll be buying their produce in future in the knowledge that no badgers were harmed or killed in the making of this milk. B :)

Isn't Yeo Valley simply a brand name? Presumably Yeo Valley Farms (Production) Limited has it's milk, fruit, etc. supplied by a large number of farmers - do all these farms use badger proof fences?

Another point that occurred to me - what happens if a farm has an existing badger sett within it's confines? To remove them would - presumably - be illegal, to fence them in would ultimately be unhealthy for the sett's population.

I'm not having a go at Yeo Valley, they seem to be quite an ethical bunch, just interested to know!

Cheers

All fair points. They have their own farm & they buy from other organic producers. I don't think it would be right to copy the whole email without asking them so here's an excerpt;

As far as we are aware there are no farms within the proposed pilot zones of the cull which supply the milk for all of our Yeo Valley organic products. And Yeo Valley does not and will not cull badgers on our own organic farm.

I'm sure if bad publicity starts to hit the industry those farms who won't be taking part in the cull will be quick to show their hands - if they feel they can without being ostracised!

Well we made it to over 103,600 signatures!!! Which really is great! If you haven't signed and agree we should save the badgers then please do so! Really will help!

Well done All! :)

For those interested, I have received responses from Morrisons, Lidls, Tesco and Asda all towing the party line and supporting the government rather than providing consumer choice and listening to scientific recommendation.

Does anyone else know of any other companies providing a pledge to provide badger-friendly dairy products?

It's had a superb response! Over 130k signatures! Which is more than I thought we would get. Really confident and hoping we may hit 150k next week..And maybe by the end we could get to 200k...Which would really be great!

If you have'nt signed and want to stop the Cull, then it would really be appreciated if you would! Thanks to ALL which have done.
