First time out with 8x33 HG L series, (1 Viewer)

Trying them in the shop is okay but it was nice to get them out in the field.
I was very pleased I had thought about some Swaros and tried
a friends 8.5x42 optically they were very close. Money wise they were a £1,000 apart. In 8x33 they will serve for 90% of my needs. I may look for
a cheap 10x for my occasional trip to the coast.
I thought the strap could of been better and I have one ill fitting lens cap but
right now Iam very happy with my purchase.

Nikon calls the current versions "Premier." They dropped the HG L/LX L designations.

Don't despair, they might not be old stock and, anyway, there have not been any significant changes during their lifetime. They have always been know as 8x32 HGL's in the UK and are still listed as such on the Nikon UK site at £991, although they are much cheaper at the dealers, as you have found out. I don't think that they have ever been called Premier in the UK.

I still have a soft spot for my older 8x32 HG's which can be picked up second hand for £250 to £350 and must be one of the best second hand bargains available. I should sell mine now I have a 7x42 EDG but they are old friends and have served me well, so I am reluctant to let then go.

They are still the same binocular.

There was some discussion here in the past about what the initials meant. I believe HG means High Grade. My LX Ls came in boxes that identified them as HG Ls. I can't remember what DCF means.

DCF stands for "Dach" (German for "roof") and CF for center focus. Interesting that the Japanese adopted the German term for roof prism binoculars.

What's the LX stand for? Luxury? That's what it means when automakers use it.

HG is High Grade, it's spelled out on the old Gold HG boxes. So they were always High Grade" HGs but for some reason, Nikon decided that LX would sound better to us Yanks and marketed it under the LX name, though that designation doesn't appear on the bin or the box.
