The new Nikon Monarch 7 8x30 is very nice! (1 Viewer)

I never experienced the type of glare with the Bresser that I did with the M7 in the whole time period that I owned it. I certainly would have remembered "The Smokescreen Effect" if I had seen it.

It probably had another name then so you didn't recognize it. :smoke: The "smokescreen effect" seems to be it's most recent name.

Interesting experience. I no longer have my Bressers but I have a vague recollection of commenting about the potential for stray light because of the lack of baffling in it. I will have to go back and check my original review.

Veiling glare, lens flare, image fogging--none of those sound quite as snappy! I imagine a generation of returned merchandise forms with this new term (now in wide circulation on the interwebs) as a technical flaw. :smoke:

Yeah. The "Smokescreen Effect" sounds kind of like a CIA mission code name. HaHa! Haaa.

You got rid of the Bresser's!!!!! WHY? Those were your chosen ones weren't they. What do you have now? The Sightron Bluesky. Your first begotten son.

Your first begotten son.

What´s with the new trend of Biblical references in the bino-thread, guys? You and Brock are scaring me! Okay, okay, I repent! (Mind you, I sold my SV 8x32 because I didn´t like the veiling glare they showed; it was a blinding experience, as Saul had on the Road to Damascus.;))

Smokescreens and foggings and glares oh my !!

:-O It´s true, I mightn´t be able to attend to you now as I wish, but just you wait my pretty, I´ll get you, and your little dog too!

Dennis,

You know very well that Nikon will not "go back to the drawing board with the M7." They really don't care how it performs against an $800.00 8x25 compact or a $900.00 8x30 and especially not a $2000.00 8x32.

They are making it to compete in the $300.00 to $400.00 8x30/32 market.

And I have not yet weighed in on it's merits and I typically use one for a month or so before I venture to do so.:king:

Bob:

You are the sensible one in this conversation, and I am looking forward to your thoughts about the new Nikon.
I respect your opinion.
The size picture posted by Phil was appreciated, and it does show how
these compare. They look like a great travel compact.

This past weekend, I spent some time with my grandson, and he is only 2 years old.
After seeing some of the memory comparison posts by Dennis, I am thinking my Grandson, would be a better source of information. ;)

As far as veiling glare issues, many would agree, it depends.

I do think of archive searches, and requested to get this thread moved to the Nikon subforum, and now I see it is relegated to the cellar, and that
is a peeve of mine. Place the topics where they belong.

Not only is it impossible to replicate a lighting condition and compare binoculars fairly in terms of glare/flare, but I wonder if different people´s eyes have anything to do with it? Is there a possibility that some people are more susceptible to glare than others (like the famous RB debate), or is the glare all in the optics?

Veiling glare?

Smoke screen effect... I thought this was in reference to Dennis posting behavior! :eek!:

Merry Christmas everybody!

Steve, in another current thread is <this post> with which you will - I think - partly disagree!

Pomp:

You are on to something here, I'm thinking when Dennis sits too long
at the computer, it is just a digestive problem, and that may be what
he calls a smoke-screen. :smoke:

The other thing is Colorado has legalized marijuana, and that could
also be the culprit. :smoke:

How did you know that ND. Merry Christmas to all my enemies and friends. May you have another good year of birding and may next year bring some new models of binoculars that we can argue over. HaHa!
