Job Opportunity with RSPB

Hi Folks,

Hope you dont mind but looking to get this job opp out into the birding community as well as the normal places.

If you are good with people and have the ability to talk passionately about conservation then we have 6 month post available in West Yorkshire for a fundraiser-type. Could be ideal for a graduate or career-change.

Cheers

Got an email back and the description sounds good although the person was driving and couldn't stop (I think I would have done an emergency stop!). Location is from A660 travelling towards Leeds just before the Cairns and Hickey shop. Seen 2.30 on Tuesday. Going to have a look in a mo.

Think I would have stopped at Cairns & Hickey & then bought a celebratory bottle if it was one B :)

Let me know how you get on, but won't be able to get there before Saturday.

Good luck Linda.

Well, I found a few fields of corvids off the road to the quarry and scanned every one I could find with no success. No sign of anything in the fields near the road. It might be worth continuing the search if anyone has time to go there. I did find buzzard, sparrowhawk and kite soaring and circling together though which made it worth the trip.

Thanks for that. Looking at the photos on the internet, it could well have been one. I'm going to try to get over there again to have another look. If anyone wants information about where to look then PM me for details

Linda,if it is the bird I am thinking of it wanders upstream as far as Killinghall bridge/Ripley.We see one matching this on a regular basis but can only make it into a very pale Common Buzzard. Not as pale as one seen above Gouthwaite last week, almost white gives a few of our members a headache i.d.ing it at times, keeps them looking !!

Scar House Reservoir is good but it could be a little early for them. Looking on Birdguides it seems there was one photographed in Roxby back in Feb so it is possible.

Scar House Ouzels have been back about a week now,one male was calling very close to the c.p. there on Thursday when we were up.

If it has a rufous tail Pete then that's the one. It's huge!

Back issues of bird reports

I'm taking advantage of the Easter break and having a clear out. Does anyone want any back issues of the following?

Yorkshire Birding
Yorkshire Naturalist bird report
Leeds birdwatchers Club annual report
Yorkshire rare and scarce bird report

I've also got 3 issues of The Naturalist from 1960, 1969 and 1977 with contributions about Fairburn Ings from Dickens and Pickup if anyone wants me to copy them.

PM me for more details. I'll be offering them to my class members then taking them to the Oxfam bookshop in Headingley after Sunday 12th April

A friend who uses 'Twitter' has noticed that there are postings claiming that there are Peregrines on York Minster. Is this true and if so is there any particular part that I should watch? Thanks for any help.

I have seen Peregrines a few times on York Minster. Saw them well from the square at the front - at least I think it's the front.

There definitely are peregrines on York Minster! Best place to look is the north face of the north-west tower from Dean's garden. If you are on Twitter, you can follow @yorkperegrines for regular updates

Thanks for the advice Ollie (metcow333)
I had a look this morning but without success. Judging by the number of pigeons the peregrines were out for the day! I'll keep trying.
