BGA 10x42 (1 Viewer)

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of the original BGA line up? This is pre-Oasis with the fold down eye pieces. I tried the 10x42 once and seem to remember that the view was generally ok. Were they phase corrected???

Thanks Simon. I looked there but the BGA is not listed. This model came before the BGA Classic!

Yes it's typical. Like Jinty says, hopefully Pete Gamby et Al will be able to tell us more.

If the model number includes the letters PC e.g. BGA PC AG then it is a phase corrected version - the 'original' BGA was not. Model number for the BGA 10x42 was 30302, for 10x42 BGA PC it was 30316.

We don't have an electronic copy of a catalogue containing the non-PC version - the earliest is 1999 when the PC model was already available. Our stock system was converted in that same year so prior launch dates rely on the (increasingly) dim and distant memory of the business owners!

Model number on the one I have is 002113. Is this an even older model?

That looks like a serial number - all our stock codes are five digits and sometimes a single letter suffix but these aren't printed on the item, only on carton boxes and/or user guides etc.

There is a quick check for phase coating if you have a pair of Polaroid sunglasses or similar. Through the wrong end of the binoculars view a laptop screen or flat monitor with the polarising film between the eye and the binoculars. As you rotate the film, one half of the view will completely black if there is no phase coating. With phase coatings the different halves may change colour but as long as it doesn't go black it's fine.
