New Sigma 150/600 (3 Viewers)

I had an email this evening from Bristol Cameras. The USB dock will be dispatched early next week.

I must say they've been good. Ordered late on Tuesday, lens delivered early today. Included in the bundle was a Sigma 105mm protector filter for the front of the lens. It was included on the website at the bottom of the order, but I hadn't noticed it was there in the package as a freebee.

Nice surprise when I opened the box.

Another shot from this morning. This was a rapid reaction, point-and-shoot effort as the ducks came and went. The crop is near as dammit full frame.

Absolutely not impressed with Bristol Cameras. My praise was premature.

The email from last week (23rd) assured me that the USB dock would be despatched on 27th/28th April. I phoned them on 28th and asked for an update, since I'd heard no more.

The bloke in the shop told me that he would get straight onto his supplier and have it delivered to me direct - it still wasn't in the shop. He assured me it would with me today, the 30th.

I waited until after lunch today and I then received an email from them telling me that the dock had 'now left our dispatch center and should be with you within 48 hours'

48 hours? It's Thursday afternoon and a bank holiday weekend is approaching. I phoned them and was told that rather than being sent to me as promised it had been sent to Bristol Cameras and that it had now been sent Royal Mail next day delivery, so now they tell me it'll be here tomorrow. I live in hope, but another day has been lost.

I need the lens tuned and up and running for a flight early on Monday. If I'd known they would mess about like this I'd have ordered one from another supplier next day delivery.

I don't have a good thing to say about Bristol cameras. 3 times I have placed an order with them and 3 times I have ended up cancelling after they assured me the item was in stock and I found out a few days later it wasn't.

couple more shots from early april ,need a good day or two out really

Nice pictures guys!

I was out today to try out the new settings on the lens. Works like a charm. I even got a handheld shot at 1/30 of a second at 600mm with slight winds :eek!: Nothing I would do all the time but it worked.

I didn't encounter any issues with higher shutter speeds and OS today. Maybe the settings fixed it or I just need to practice ;)

Here are some pictures from today.

That's looking good both of you ,glad to say I told you those settings would work ,it certainly has for me and what's more consistently to ,worth sticking with it

I'd love to see some shots with the sport on a 7d2 to see how the new sensors work with it.

Anyone do comparisons of the same shot off of and on a tripod to see which is sharper?

I have been very pleasantly surprised at how good the Contemporary is and I l think that we should be seeing even better results with the sport.

That wheatear in my post above is taken with the 7DII, as were my other photos on this thread in the past few days.

Black Fox I love your photos you have posted here. I have not read the entire thread because a lot if the dribble going back and forth between various members. Let me say that I am going to follow this thread to help me improve my technique with this lens. Good you please tell me what setting you have made to achieve the sharpness you have attained in many of your photos? I am shooting currently with my 5D3 but will also be using a 1DX from time to time. I am selling a 300mm F2.8 and am considering selling my 500mm F4 if I can achieve certain results. One thing I can attest to this lens is that is apparent softness/lack of contrast has improved my sports shots over the 300mm. Because the shadow areas appear to have more information yeild better detail in shadow areas. This photo was shot in midday sun at 800mm. Better results than my 300mm at 300mm.

And these were handheld or on a tripod?

Big crops or no?

Handheld. The wheatear was resting on the car door image stabilisation on, about one third of the frame's area.

The first shots, grasshopper warbler and pochard were hand-held without stabilisation, about 25% of the frame .

The in-flight mallards were hand-held, almost full frame. No IS.

The sedge warbler and skylark were also hand-held, with stabilisation on, about one quarter to one third of the frame.

a couple from early last month ,really close range so lacking in d.o.f .the weather up here has closed in yet again so nothing fresh this week

My impressions after a weekend of heavy shooting. First let me say I am a recovering pixel peeper. Although the lens is obviously not as sharp as my 500 f4 it does reproduce quite well at the cropped size. I have not configured with the USB dock yet so have not been able to take advantage of some of the tweaks yet. The closer you are to the subject the better the lens performs as do all lens. I bought this lens specifically for soccer and the ability to fill the frame at most distances is very important in harsh lighting conditions. Will report periodically as I continue to learn this lenses nuances.

Ive seen one of these lenses, the sport, for sale in the local camera shop here in Muscat. At 697 rials thats just under 1200 pounds uk. quite tempted to take the plunge and buy it. The results here look very good indeed.
