Dave,

First thank you for referring me to the CBC Website and your initiative on Carsington. I will definitely give it a go. As for what I'm after? With my wife and daughter planning the week's events, I'm trying to insert some "me time" and get in some local birding. Most of my UK visits are restricted to London and a quick walk in the park.

At Wyver last night 97 Mallard, 19 Gadwall, 5 Wigeon, 103 Teal, 5 Goosander, 4 Tufties, c15 Snipe, c100 BH Gulls and a Little Grebe.

Chris has been down Abbey Hill today. Lots of water down there now. The best was 99 Greylags, 25 Teal and a Green Sand.

An unseasonal adult Little Stint at Carsington this morning viewable from the bronze age mound on Stones Island. Also the 1st winter male Scaup still, 44 Pink-feet and 3 Jack Snipe. Drake Red-breasted Merganser yesterday from Sheepwash Hide.

Long-tailed Duck at Long eaton GP's this morning on Rifle Range Pit.

1st winter male Scaup still at Carsington today in Brown Ale Bay (Paul Stanley) but no sign of yesterday's Little Stint. Simon had a bit of stuff moving this morning. 9270 Redwing, 82 Fieldfare, 4 Blackbird, 870 Starling, all north-east. 110 Woodpigeons N. 2 Stock Dove E. 15 Lesser Redpoll. 50 Siskin.

Chris and Mr Blaver had a female Scaup at Highbridge. And a good count of 9 Pintail inc 8 drakes.

Long-tailed Duck still at Long Eaton GP's on Rifle Range Pit. Access from end of Trent Lane.

Little Stint still at Carsington today along with the 1st winter male Scaup. Also 14 Common Scoters am only.

Simon has had 2 Hawfinch fly through Carsington this morning. One around 0830 then another shortly after. Little Stint also still present.

At Carsington yesterday: Pink-footed Goose with Canadas, 3 Shoveler, 4 Goosander, 10 Goldeneye, 9 Gadwall, 156 Wigeon, 29 Snipe, 10 Dunlin, 4 Redshank, 2 Kingfisher, 2 Raven. Birds on the move include 2580 Redwing, 109 Fieldfare, 235 Woodies and a Stock Dove. 9 Lesser Redpoll at Hopton End.

For those who have been stuck on another planet since this afternoon and aren't aware, there's a Dusky Thrush in an as yet unknown location somewhere in the Beeley area. All being well the location and access will be sorted out tomorrow morning.

Dusky still present this afternoon and it has apparently been present for c2 weeks. Park in Dukes Barn car park for £3 and view adjacent orchard.

It's probably been mentioned further up the thread but I can't be bothered to scroll through. However, if you're going for the Dusky there is no parking in the village. Park only in Carlton Lees car park and take the free one way shuttle bus or walk to village. Lots of runs already.

There was 100'000 on Nov 23rd so I'm guessing there still is. I'm not 100% where to view from but if I recall correctly from previous years it was the road that leads to Cavendish Mill. Up that road on the right there's a gate that used to have a sign on it mentioning birders and starlings so that's probably where you have to stand. If anyone can offer more then hopefully they will post.

Little Stint, Ruff, 18 Dunlin, 2 Shelduck and Cetti's Warbler still around Stones/Watersports. Jack Snipe at Hopton reedbed early morning. 4 Herring Gull. 1 GBbG. 1+ Skylark over. 3 Raven. More southwards movement of thrushes: 2150 Redwing and 45 Fieldfare. 12 Grey Wag came out of Hopton reedbed early morning. 1 Brambling over Hopton. 8 Lesser Redpoll on Stones.
