Managing extended lists in Scythebill (1 Viewer)

I've imported pretty much everything I have seen into Scythebill, but I have a little dilemma.

I have a UK plants list, using the UK Plants taxonomy file, which is fine.. But I also have a few European plant species that I'd like to record. What would be my best bet...

Either add them to the UK plant list, call it European, and update the taxonomy as I see Euro species (won't be many). This is neat, but I suspect it would get trashed if an updated UK plant list was uploaded!

Or, have a new miscellaneous taxonomy of Just European extras, my own taxonomy file, adding species as I see them. Future proof, but not as neat.

I doubt I would find a European Plants list to import, and it would be overkill anyway.

I have a similar thing going on with other groups, e.g. Reptiles. (6 Uk species, plus Nile Crocodile and Monitor Lizard!)

I don't have a great answer for you.

Like you intuited, if you updated the UK plant taxonomy to add some European species, you'd lose them the next time you updated the taxonomy. Nothing says you have to update the taxonomy, ever, but it's lousy that you couldn't if you wanted to.

What I'd like to do is add the concept of an ad-hoc taxonomy, where you could just build up sighting for whatever you want, right in Scythebill, off on-the-side - you tell Scythebill a species name, it lets you record it, no fuss or ceremony to it. Seems like that'd suit your needs, but every time I think about adding it it seems like a lot of work for a very small bit of data.

That's ok, was just checking I wasn't overlooking the obvious really. What I am going to do...

Add my euro plant species plus most wanted etc, in a block to the bottom of the available uk taxonomy.
Then if an updated uk taxonomy is released:
save my sightings as CSV,
save the edited taxonomy as CSV,
Delete from scythebill
Upload the new taxonomy,
Edit it to put my extra species in,
Import my sightings.

Slightly convoluted because I can't edit the btxm files with my spreadsheet, I don't think.
So everything has to go via CSV!

The one way I can imagine simplifying this is to create a second .bsxm file that you just use for importing the .btxm and then exporting as a .csv. That'll save you having to do anything with your sightings.

Wish this was simpler...

I will bear that in mind. Thanks for your help. To be honest this gets me into a better regime of understanding how it works, and being more knowledgeable in how I use it.
