FUJINON HC (Hyper-Clarity) new roof prism binos (1 Viewer)

Hi GG,

The most interesting thing for me are the filter threads.

I really don't like the stabilizer on the 14x40, although these binoculars are apparently good from boats.

Regards,
B.

Yes, that is an interesting feature.

But, this HC is not an IS binocular … or did I miss something ?

Hi GG,

In the write up of the new binocular, Fujinon praise their technology with mention of the Fujinon 14x40, and how good the stabilizer is.
Well it isn't, although the 14x40 gives a very good image but with a rather small FOV.

Fujinon broadcast lenses are very well regarded, but some of the Fujinon binoculars that I have seen aren't that great.

Also some of their consumer cameras weren't that good either.

Regards,
B.

ok, thanks for the clarification. I doubt there will be people lining up in anticipation for this new binocular, so we may never get a hands on review of it here. But, I wonder if it could be a high quality binocular that nobody will ever discover. Also, I wonder who manufactured it? Does Fujinon manufacture their binoculars ?

I just gotta tell you Beth that I love your new avatar. It is so lovely girl.
I was thinking the exact same thing KC ! when I saw it I said "Ooo - that's nice" :) ....... (same with Delia's and the cute little Owlet-Nightjar :)

I imagine it's what the colours look like there now GiGi, and it's your favourite patch - a lovely walk, and hidden close by :)

Lol - I'm figuring that's why you like the 'warmish' saturated colour view :-O

I just checked the link you provided - maybe there's more information there now ?

In summary:
Compact 42mm Roof Prism ED Binoculars in 8x and 10x
Closed frame magnesium chassis
Long eye relief
Water repellant outer coatings
Diopter correction on right tube just ahead of eyepiece
9 lenses in 7 groups - looks to be 2(one ED component)+1 Objective, 1 focusing element, Dielectric coated S-P prisms, 5 element eyepiece (2+2+1~lanthum glass final element)

Hyper-Clarity is a marketing term, unless they are going to be made to a higher resolution standard than the Industry Standard ;) It probably refers to CA handling, though no mention is made of what type of ED glass (if it was fluorite they'd be trumpeting it).

They are claiming 'balanced' light transmission and 'natural' colours.
Also distortions controlled from centre to edge.

All lenses are Super EBC multi-coated (which is Fujinon's standard naming of their AR coating process).

No Fov, or weight specs that I can see, nor any quantification of what they define as "long ER".

Looks like low to mid-level ? standard mainstream birding/nature observation binoculars ...... :cat:

[EDIT] - Just followed the link Ries provided and specs are up -
blah :-O

Yep, we have real pretty fall colors now. The view through my warmish MHG is "Hyper-Colorful" ! o:D

Yep, 'Hyper-Clarity' is obviously marketing terminology much like "HD".

It does have ED lenses apparently mentioned in the product info.

Yes, I figured "Super EBC" to mean their proprietary coatings.

I wonder if they manufactured it or just designed it and have an OEM build it.

I did see the specs listed in the link before you posted them.

I'm guessing it will be a mid-level tier binocular (not lower level); It's pretty heavy. I guess we'll get our answer based on the pricing in November.

I don't know why I'm intrigued by it. I guess since it's new and not offered by the usual guys. Maybe I'm curious since it's coming from a Camera company.

This reminds me of the Olympus binoculars. There's the newer Pro series which had a good review here a while back, but then everyone quickly forgot about them. They do make decent binoculars. I loved my little 7x21 Classic reverse porro which I bought for super cheap.

In describing the Fujinon H-C (Hyper-Clarity) binoculars as seemingly ‘very conventional’, I was not meaning that to be seen as dismissive of them,
as conventionality can be good - especially when considering value at a given price point

The full length hinge should allow for strength and durability, and also allow for a simple and robust focusing mechanism
And the seperate diopter control on the right tube, should again allow for mechanical simplicity and durability (and ease of maintenance if ever needed),
though at the slight cost of creating a potential extra point for moisture entry into the mechanism

However, the use of Hyper-Clarity as a model name, is going to invite very careful optical comparisons
The image is going to need to have notably greater ‘clarity’ than other binoculars at the same price point - either in terms of brightness and/ or discernible detail -
to avoid harsh criticism of the name as being nothing other than a hyperbolic marketing ploy

Considering the capabilities of Fujinon in relation to optics, including previous high performance Porro prism binoculars,
one would hope that the use of 'Hyper-Clarity' is not going to devalue the brand

And some more dramatic images of the HC from: https://www.fujifilm.eu/eu/news/art...ar-field-of-view-fujinon-hyper-clarity-series

n.b. the degree to which the focuser is surrounded by the bridge area, may restrict access to it

John

Thanks for posting those photos John. I think when you fold it to set your IPD access to focuser should be a bit better.

2 positives:
the ocular lenses look to be large diameter
Aluminum focus wheel

I like the design ... looks nice !
