It's probably nearer from the A38 but parking is a problem at either end, it's a pity the reserve carpark isn't open. I believe some park at Webbs.

Thank you for your reply Geoff! We viewed the Flashes from the public footpath yesterday and it was a bit of trek from the A38 side so I was just wondering if it would be closer (and with less stiles) from the other side of the footpath. We had distant views of Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, Ringed Plover, Common Snipe, Avocet, Lapwing, Curlew, Grey Heron, Gadwall, Shoveler and BH Gulls. A Peregrine was on one of the transmitters.

Autumn All-Dayer

The results from the West Midlands All-Day Birdwatch on Saturday 5th September when a new record of 32 sites participated, producing a further record of 140 species observed (Curlew Sand at UW missed off the spreadsheet).

Once again Phil, thanks for all the time and trouble to prepare the above info, brilliant, very informative.
I dont know if it`s too late to add to the list for Sutton Park, but went to see the RB Shrike on the 5th Sept, didnt see half those birds listed but did see a Sparrowhawk, which is NOT listed for Sutton Park.

By the way what was the "withheld species" if your now at liberty to say?

Upton Warren
Our intention is that our new temporary staff will help us to partially reopen Upton Warren, initially for two days a week under controlled conditions.* This will include a booking system to manage numbers.* We will provide further details on our website once our staff are in post. Can someone identify this for me please? I know what I would like it to be but the more i learn the less I know. Over to some kind person. Pretty please.

Just found a likely comparison pic. What threw me was the 2 lines coming from its eye. Think its not an escape - think its young and female of the variety. Found 3 pairs and several singles on a adjacent pool in 2018 - it was suggested they were escapes!! Not convinced. Haven't seen any since but plenty of hiding places etc etc. Not rare!

Thanks to you and Albional for your replies. What I was curious about was the fact that the bird has an extra white line coming from its eye and I can find no real explanation for this and only one other photo on line.
I had the feeling that this was a young bird and wondered if it had flown in from somewhere close having perhaps been bred locally.

- Access limited to Trust members only (not clear if Worestershire Trust only or all Wildlife Trusts)
- Two days a week (Thursday and Saturday)
- Two sessions a day, each with 12 people
- Morning session 10am to 12:30pm
- Afternoon session 2pm to 4:30pm
- Can only book 1 session every 3 weeks
- Starts Saturday 24th October

Why is The Moors only able to open on TWO days ---"Thanks to Heritage Fund" as per Worcs Birding Twitter.
Does this require additional funding that the Trust cannot afford?

They need to do much better than this if they expect us to renew subscriptions.

Everyone knows that Covid has rest periods ...Thursday and Saturday.......between 10.30 and 12.30 and again 2 to 4.30. It also remembers anyone that it sees but this lapses after 3 weeks....SO THESE ARE REALLY GOOD MEASURES TO STOP PEOPLE CONTACTING COVID......nice one....

Why do "powers that be " loose all common sense when called on to administer it ?

Is that right you can walk on public footpaths regardless of width ?

I booked for Sat 24th before I realized that I already had a previous committment.
Then made a booking for the following Thursday. The system allowed me to do this before I had cancelled the first one.

Goodbye Upton once a great place.

It Still will be , the birds and other fauna and flora will still be there. I am just a member of the Trust. This means to me protecting nature in the county/country, they may get somethings right and fail on some occasions. I hope they succeed. I hope in 100 years time, future generations can still enjoy a walk in the woods.

I would like to send a thanks to the volunteers/staff who have battled to keep the Trust going.
