Displaying larger photos (1 Viewer)

There is a limit of 1600x1200 for jpegs attached to posts. Is there any reason you want bigger ones?

Way, way back we could actually add an image which became a part of the post and not a thumbnail.

I'm not really sure why it stopped but perhaps admin can fill me in on why we changed to thumbnails.

Many thanks for the replies. I would reduce the size (file size) of any photos entered in a post to within any pre-defined limits or can a photo from a link be displayed if it's a space issue?

I'm only saying as my personal preference is that it's much nicer to see a photo(s) straight away full-on in a post as opposed to clicking and expanding a thumbnail one by one (gets a bit laborious)

I think there would be an awful lot of scrolling if a thread filled up with full size images when you opened it.

A smooth scroll through a gallery of beautiful images (or some that may not be so beautiful) sounds great to me!

:t:

:-O

Better than click open close, click open close, click open close, click open close, click open close, click open close, click open close, click open close, click open close, click open close, click open close ....

B :)

:eek!:

Hi John... I remember those times when it was possible.

I opened a thread once and my whole screen was covered with a picture, the picture was larger than my screen. I was not terribly amused by it really, as I'd a lot of scrolling to do to find the actual post comments.

I'd prefer to have the option of looking at a picture by clicking on a thumbnail.

Well, there is always the Gallery to look at! :D

I think there could be changes afoot so wait and see what happens.

Ah, the good old days! ;)

I prefer to look straight through the likes of (par exemple) Julie50's sparkling clean windows instead of the keyhole. :eek!: another key just poked me in the eye ;)

:-O

I do prefer forum posts with the images inserted ( as I think is the case with the majority of the online forums). Especially in trip reports the images appear where they are relevant to the story which, to me anyway, makes for a much more pleasant reading experience.

I'm not entirely sure it will always be a good thing - there is a strong tendency to switch off when scrolling through lots of photos when you're trying to read something. Especially if the quality or repetitive nature is a bit dubious. But if can be done as a toggle on/off or even choose the size that may be a different matter. The technology is obviously out there ...

Ummm, agreed (sort of), some people are likely to switch off when viewing loads of photos and even long texts, especially if they are of a more repetitive/boring nature, but not all post are as such and of course you're not forced to view such a post.

Viewing an image in a post and having any associated text next to it I feel is good for the norm and outweighs most disadvantages (I stand to be corrected of course).

From memory, I think those that be can go into vBulletin attachment manager and set the max file size, height and width for a file type.

I do like the new feature where you can open up a kind of mini gallery from a post of pictures, as I tend to agree forums I have seen where full images can be embedded can easily take over a thread - but I can see where it might be nice to do it though - maybe it could be enabled for say blog only threads and similar?
