The people in this aircraft were incredibly lucky that it was landing at low altitude when they were hit.
As are bird strikes and subsequent possible decompression.

actually, they can and they do. The highest recorded bird strike event happened at around 36,000 ft (without looking it up right now).

You are quite right Hauksen. I was thinking of oxygen starvation and assumed that birds would be subject to this.
But birds are marvelous things. Have to look into this further.
