Costa Rica unusual black bird (1 Viewer)

Hi again this is a poor picture but the bird has a very unusual shape which I thought may help with identification.
He was taken in northern Costa Rica

It looks like an Ani - I guess Groove-billed in Costa Rica.

If you are far enough north then yes, GBAni according the range map in the book. From the middle of CR, both are there.

Ebird shows Smooth-billed Ani reaching the Gulf of Nicoya, so you actually have to be pretty far north to make a decision on species based on range. https://ebird.org/map/smbani?neg=tr...mr=1-12&bmo=1&emo=12&yr=all&byr=1900&eyr=2020
