Sutton Park (2 Viewers)

Bracebridge Woods this afternoon - 100s of Wood Pigeons, maybe 500+, a Tawny Owl mobbed by Jays, Buzzard, Siskin 2 over, Fieldfare 5, Redwing, Jay 4, GS Woodpecker, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Long-tailed Tit flock. Also a few Goldcrests and a Fox.

At Bracebridge Pool only a Heron and a few Mallard & Black-headed Gulls.

Streetly Gate & Heath this morning, fairly quiet (as usual!) -

GS Woodpecker, Jay 3, Redwings 14, Blackbird 2, Bullfinch 3, Chaffinch 4, Greenfinch, Long-tailed Tits 17, Goldcrest 4, Coal Tit 2, Wren 2, Buzzard and Sparrowhawk.

Hardwick Wood, Streetly -

Pretty quiet probably due to the high winds. Have seen LS Woodpecker here before but not today!

Buzzard, Siskin, Linnet 3, Goldfinch 2, Heron and a few Goldcrests, Long-tailed Tits, Wrens, Robins, Corvids etc. 42 Wood Pigeon flew in to roost.

Black-headed Gull 2, Mallard 18, Tufted Duck 1, Moorhen 3, Heron 1, Buzzard 1, Tawny Owl called twice from woods, Jay 3, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Redwing 25 plus, Goldcrest 5, Siskin 7, Stock Dove 10+ and some sort of feral/escaped duck!

Plus usuals Robin, Dunnock, Blackbird 6, Coal Tit, Great Tit, Wood Pigeons 50+, Crow, Magpie.

Male RED-BACKED SHRIKE for its second day

Please would someone mind letting me know where the best place to park for the RBS? I think I've worked out roughly where the bird is located but not sure on parking.

Post code I used was B73 6LJ , there is a Miller and Carter pub on Stonehouse Road , keep that on your left , go up the hill about half a mile or so and you will come to a crossroads , turn left onto car parking area.
With your back to the car park head uphill for about half a mile , bird was in trees near gorse area, hopefully there will be other birders there already, you will see them from the car park if there are.

Attached a location map of Sutton Park showing parking (Boldmere Gate) and recent area where RBS seen. I hope this helps you, and others. Park first red X at end of road, walk dotted line to 2nd X where RBS seen.

I havn`t been able to go myself yet, but hope to go tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who supplied directions for the SHRIKE......some superb views and great to see it flying from bush to bush.....

Not very good light so despite a nightmare travelling there and back I might have to re -visit if its sticks around.

Managed a couple of hours watching the Red Backed Shrike this p.m. Very pleasant stroll around. Even managed a couple of photos, not as good as Keiths above:eek!:

No Shrikes but loads of Stonechats and Chiffchaffs in Sutton Park today. Beautiful weather as well.

Thanks Phil, that exactly where I parked and accessed this afternoon.

Saw the 2 Firecrests (fairly briefly) amongst the 15 LT Tits, plus Coal, Blue, Great Tits, and Goldcrests, also a few jays and Sparrowhawk. The tit flock seemed to move down the woods and were quite mobile.
