NL Pure objective covers (1 Viewer)

One of the first things I do when obtaining a new binocular is to remove the objective covers and store them as an historic item. Generally the same is the case for the eyepiece covers, since not many are pleasant to use. For the NL pure I found a hard plastic green colored one that slides easily over the eyepieces, protects them well when carrying them, slide easily on and off and prevent dust and raindrops to fall on the eyepiece lenses. Works fine.

Hmm... Check the numbers, that top one looks like it might be an EL objective cover.

Coincidently I just heard from the purchaser of an NL made in January that one of her objective cover tethers broke off from the attachment end.

Bottom one is the NL cover. Top one a replacement. The NL ones seem to be a bit more fragile. I my case the rubber/more flexible part came loose from the hard plastic part which clicks onto the metal rod. New out of the box. They gave me a replacement which has a different size. Not sure how one can have production issues for these simple parts, but what do I know!

Coincidently I just heard from the purchaser of an NL made in January that one of her objective cover tethers broke off from the attachment end.

This happened to mine. It is a very fragile connection. The EL version the dealer gave me as replacement seems to be more sturdy. Swarovski has problems supplying NL replacement parts.

I will check the number tomorrow. A dealer from which I bought the NL Pure gave me the replacement. Not Swarovski BNL.

Now i have revoved the Objective Covers on My NL. It is easier and faster to use. Will see how it works in Rainy condition without the covers. The lenses are a bit deeper in the Tubes than on the EL.
How is our expirience without Objective Covers in the Rain?

I'm a big fan of Swarovski, the optics and the service are both absolutely top notch, but I dislike some of the design decisions. 10x42 NLs are available to me now, and I'm planning on going to the local dealer next week to check out a pair (have only seen the 8x42 before). If I take them home, it will be DESPITE the fieldpro attachment system and DESPITE the objective cover attachment system. Both strike me as over-engineered solutions to problems that many (most?) users don't encounter.

Remind me of the touchbar that Apple forced on everyone for the past 5-8 years before finally accepting that no one wanted it.

A lot of stuff on Swarovski's is over-engineered. The strap, the case, the attachment system, the objective covers and the rain guard are all over done. I prefer the minimalist approach. I wonder if it is the Austrian mentality to over-engineer stuff?
