Who do I believe - Leica Trinovid HD versus Zeiss Conquest HD (3 Viewers)

Ah, ok I assumed you weren't looking at birds, I just needed to know your secret if you were luring birds 3 ft away. I'm not much of an insect person, I prefer vertebrates.

Well, birding from 3ft away can indeed be done. Have a look for a bird-feeder, the kind that holds say sunflower hearts and is the kind that comes with suckers so you can fix it to the outside of a window. This can be very effective. We did this some years ago and by sketching the face patterns of the Coal Tits that visited we found there were 12 individuals coming and not just the 4 that we thought.

I've thought about a window feeder, but we like to put screens on our windows in the summer and open the windows. Also it would probably get dominated by House Sparrows

Well it looks like you are going to have to move house to somewhere colder and with no House Sparrows. Or just develop and interest in Dragonflies and Butterflies. Binos can be great for watching fish too,

I have tried them both, and I prefer the Zeiss, and I am historically a Leica fan.
The Zeiss, to me, were just a bit better optically, and when you add in the field of view, and finally the destruction, or as it turned out, the 'not destruction' video, the Zeiss were just an awesome all round package. And still made in Germany, if that makes a difference to you.
I ended up with pocket Swaro, and second hand Zeiss FL's.... but would have chosen the Zeiss 8x42 over the Trinovid. But the Trinovids were still excellent.
