Halfway up an Alp
I’m with your sentiments all the way Patudo (and I agree that a Gyr one day would be high on my wish list!).
Or alternatively, you found out that you live in a world where some folk think public health is more important than some person thinking they have the freedom to do whatever they want.I used to have various "goals". Then I found out that I live in a world when I can be prohibited from reaching those goals from one day to another on a whim of a group of people who put fighting a virus above everything else and that I have absolutely no control of my own freedom.
I'd second @foresttwitcher 's comments. It is one of the easiest countries I've been to for travel, which is saying something when I can't speak a word of the language or read anything for that matter.Japan is highly on my list as one of the few countries I want for both birding and culture outside of Europe, so that's good to hear because some of the prices for tours seem to rack up fast

Opisska has repeatedly complained not only about restrictions on international travel, but on just about any restrictions relating to Covid, be it requirements to wear masks or any other of the (mostly relatively minor) inconveniences that we need to comply with these days. Personally, and I accept others have differing opinions, I support these ...and given there is a whole bunch of persons that would do nothing to lessen risk of spread, I'm quite happy with the so-called 'whim of a group of politicians' to introduce these requirements.I never heard a medical expert, or even a politician, saying that bans on international travel in Europe or North America helped in anything. All virus variants spread anyway.
Governments worldwide made bans on international travel. But it was more politicians showing off how decisive they are, or panicking and doing random things, or using an excuse to satisfy their lust for power. In any case, not to be encouraged.
I have had genuine concern for Jan for some time, based on the stuff he's posted across various threads.Opisska has repeatedly complained not only about restrictions on international travel, but on just about any restrictions relating to Covid, be it requirements to wear masks or any other of the (mostly relatively minor) inconveniences that we need to comply with these days. As for reaching goals in today's world, it is still totally possible - abiding by the regulations in place, many parts of the globe are open and visitable. Plenty of good things still to see.
Well, you can read one here: bans om international and restrictions on national travel do not stop, but will slow and reduce the spread of a disease. That wins time for countermeasures.I never heard a medical expert, or even a politician, saying that bans on international travel in Europe or North America helped in anything. Now you have at least read it from an expert
Which perhaps explains why this is NOT the right arena for public health discussions. As I mentioned, I'm not 28 yes old, so I suppose Expert status eludes me. I just do my work where I am...You waited several months before jumping out - now that NO additional countermeasures were taken in Europe after new variants appeared one after another.
What expert?
Good for you. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions, and to express them. My comment was to the "...never heard a medical Expert say..." and to make up for that omission. And of course what I state are my opinions, based on studies and work and observations since graduation in 1982 as a DVM and later an MPH (which are academic credentials and were included ). That I withold my name is because it is irrelevant here for obvious reasons. Now you have at least read a statement about the effects of quarantine and travel restrictions, I have not asked or demanded that you accept it. But I did have to make sure it was available for you to read. Mission accomplished. It will probably not change your mind...What eludes you is not your age, but your objectively wrong opinions.
That you are roughly right that Covid should be responded to does not make every response right. Does not help either, that you did not state your true name nor academic credentials, but, curiously, only your age. And of course, appeal to authority 'I am an expert so I am right' is a logical fallacy.
BTW, I was even younger than 27 when I joined this forum.
