Canada plans to reassess the Eskimo Curlew's status in 2020, with no confirmed date yet for the U.S. review.
Although both species will probably require near constant management to keep them stable. For instance, Kirtland's is very dependent upon cowbird removal from there nesting areas, a species that has invaded there habitat thanks to human alteration of the environment.I must say it's encouraging how many more birds (like Kirtland's Warbler and California Condor) could be on the list, but aren't due to conservation efforts that pulled the populations back from the edge. We need to continue to keep the rest of our species as far from the edge as possible.
Nearly all of eastern North America's freshwater mussel species are either extinct or Critically Endangered. Depending on the species it is either attributed to pollution or the invasive Dreissena mussels. The Mussel extinction is a bit bigger cause of alarm for me, given what it might suggest about the health of our freshwater rivers and streams in the east.
Serves you right for sending us all your nasty Signal CrayfishNearly all of eastern North America's freshwater mussel species are either extinct or Critically Endangered. Depending on the species it is either attributed to pollution or the invasive Dreissena mussels.
