Espanola, Ontario, Canada - Are these Ring necked ducks? I saw them in a group, diving for food. (1 Viewer)

Not the best images, for sure...and later in the day. I think they are Ring-necked Ducks? November 4, 2021 Shallow bay/marsh area. Thanks

Most photos do show Ring-necked Ducks, but in at least one photo one of the female birds seems to show wrong pattern for RND & I think may be Lesser Scaup, but image quality is poor.
 
Agreed that photo quality is not good enough for certainty, but I don't see the "wrong pattern" that Aeshna sees. All look good for RND to me.
 
My understanding is that they are named for the ring around the neck - more conspicuous in dead/taxonomy specimens which is what would have been looked at/handled when the species was named. Seen on eg wary birds but fair enough to say not a particularly enlightening name for the bird when experienced normally.
