ID help, please. Shanghai, November. Common Redshank? (1 Viewer)

Hainan on the fly

Well-known member
I'm not sure if these pictures are clear enough to separate nonbreeding Common Redshank from Spotted. Looks like less white in the head and the absence of spots on the wings and tail (difficult to see in my pictures) points towards Common. I'm curious if anyone thinks this is a clear cut ID or if it's more of a guessing game given the quality of the pictures.

Thanks if you can offer any help.

Brian

Problem-free spotted redshank. Fine bill, and overall slender elegance of the bird - in addition to bill features mentioned above.
