How's your 2022 list going? (1 Viewer)

One new bird this morning that I wasn't anticipating until this fall or winter, when it's easier to find in leafless thick woods and brush.

267. Ruffed Grouse

He was sitting at the side of a dirt road, and even stayed put while I got out of the car for photos. He must have been agitated by my presence, because he had his black ruffs showing, which I had never seen before.

A few days spent camping in the Cambrian mountains in deepest, darkest Wales produced two additions to my year list. (In the general area of RSPB Gwenffrwd-Dinas though neither actually on the reserve).

292. Wood Warbler
293. Lesser Redpoll

This morning I chased a local rarity that had been seen at a nearby state park during the last two days. I quickly found my target but just as suddenly it disappeared, forcing me to wait a couple of hours before it came back into view.

268. Little Blue Heron

Check your Cory's Shearwater. In the Mediterranean its more likely to be Scopoli's. I think all taxonomic authorities accept this now.

Well the 2nd attempt at Nightjar was again a heard only, so on the 3rd attempt: 194 Nightjar.
Plus: Storm Petrel, Common Scoter, Sooty Shearwater, Least Sandpiper, Chough, and Yellow-legged Gull brings me to 200.

294. Common Scoter

One flying by Portland Bill this evening is the first year tick for a couple of weeks, though I've added a few to my UK life list.

If he is going by Clements/eBird, then it would still be Cory's, although there's a push to finally accept the split this year.
Yes, thank you both. When I use eBird it still employs Cory's for Calonectris diomedea... Will be good to see it corrected next year.

198 upland sandpiper. I don't usually hear those, people in town claim to hear them fly over at night. This was early morning, heard and saw roughly a shore bird shape with not too long a bill. It was long gone by the time I got the binoculars up.

Mid to late August is when I start looking for migrating nighthawks passing overhead. Saw my first one this evening. My earliest record by two days.

269. Common Nighthawk

I saw a couple of new species for the year at Portland Bill last week, including one lifer. (Also great views of Barn Owl and Bottle-nosed Dolphins while there).

297. Arctic Skua
298. Kittiwake
