Are the Swarovski NL 8x32s the best birding binoculars? (1 Viewer)

Please stop if you think I’m trying to nail jello to a tree again, but why would you want a meostar with a small FOV with smeary edges, because it has good eyecups now?
It's just typical of the sort of nonsensical and illogical statements that he always makes...... don't break your head trying to understand, most of us have been down that road and have given up!! ;);)

Funny thing about this , is I’ve been only reading BF for almost ten years, but never registered or posted. I have multiple reasons for participating more but I won’t bore anybody with the details. Dennis was one of the reasons I registered to post, there was so many contradictions on his posts on specific binos that I had to ask others , what’s the deal.

Isnt that great, Dennis was the inspiration for people like me join BF, and now you all have the pleasure of reading my posts, haha haha 🥴

There is more to this than just nonsense contradiction….we all see it but would get tossed for actually articulating.
We can always try! Let's articulate.. :p

I've been active on the forum for about 5 years.

I also lurked for awhile, and then read through about 10 years of posts. One character stood out because he consistently played dumb to get attention, intentionally irritated other folks, and bought and sold binoculars in the manner of a used car salesman. The forum was more or less a vehicle for him to brag about and advertise his current product, then sell it, to fund his next product, whether on this forum or elsewhere. His pronouncements and opinions were all over the map, because each binocular had its own sometimes contradictory qualities with one(s) he'd already sold. So nothing he said had much value because it was primarily in the service of advertising/bragging about something he was soon going to sell. He apparently had very little field experience using his binoculars to provide much insight based on actual use, preferring instead to quote from the spec sheets, or provide links to reviews that bolstered the stature of his product. He did engage in civil behavior from time to time, but it, unfortunately, has always proven to be temporary.

That's my take on what's been going on for well over a decade ;-)

A courageous decision.
Its not that hard. After 5 years, if I get booted temporarily, no big deal. Just calling it as I see it. There's plenty of useful info and folks here, but there's also the persistent 'noise' of certain individuals that tend to take over from time to time.

An excellent summary of the "problem"!! I am afraid that he thrives on our responses and reactions to his ridiculous and ever changing views. And all the time he remains civil in his comments his not going to be chucked out the forum. The best solution would be for everyone not to react to his posts and to ignore him in the hope that he can find his entertainment somewhere else. Unfortunately that is never going to happen - there are always going to be newcomers who don't know his history and others (me included unfortunately!:)) who sometimes just can't just let some bizarre comment/opinion go by unchallenged.

That was a glaring , killer response that 99% of birders would agree 🫢

Not 'unfortunately', but 'fortunately'.
It is possible such comment to be interpreted as an authoritative real information when is not.

Don't you mean they are NL8x32 killers?

Lee
The NL 8x32 has a bigger FOV and sharper edges than the Meostar 8x32, but actually the optical quality is pretty close. It is amazing how changing the eye cups can transform a binocular. I wish you could change eye cups on other binoculars. For example, put some bigger diameter eye cups on the compacts.

I've been here longer than most. But it was only after attempting to correct some of Dennis' comments that I really learned the score. Originally, I couldn't figure out if he was an inexperienced 13-year-old, an over-experienced 93-year-old, or just a fellow in desperate need of attention and was willing to suffer the slings and arrows of others on BF to get it. It is really sad in so many ways.

Totally agree! In the beginning I found him irritating but lately I find him simply sad and pathetic...

it’s important to learn when to stop arguing with people and just let them be wrong.

I learned to back way off with Dennis when I learned that he felt himself more astute than the optical engineers of SPIE or the professors of cognitive studies at MIT. As with most observers with erroneous opinions, I went the extra mile to create a graphic to illustrate that NO, he does not always KNOW what he sees.
