BBC Winterwatch (1 Viewer)

Getting a bit fed up with Otters featured all the time I like to see them but I’m not that interested in them. Great to see Musselburgh Lagoons featured last night.

No mention of the marvellous Musselburgh sea duck array, and there are scrapes all round the country: OK so they are repurposed ash pits but is that really such a big deal? Bit of a wasted opportunity unless they are going to do more in the next two days.

Fascinated by the use of hydrophones to identify underwater invertebrates though. There's some great research being showcased on Winterwatch.

Really enjoyed this series of Winterwatch and it’s nice to hear Chris & Michaela are going somewhere different for Springwatch.

Enjoyed Winterwatch this year, found it informative and gave new insights to many species. I think there’s enough room for a handful of segments showing how nature impacts and inspires us.

You know I still think the 'proper' venue for Springwatch is where the first series came from, a Devonshire farm I think. ;)

YuShan - I get where you are coming from but research shows that time spent "in nature" has measurable impact on mental health.

I read something interesting on the subject in a "blog" which I will try to re-find. I read it about 5 years ago, so apologies in advance if I can’t find it.

I found the blog following a visit to a nature reserve.
I was old, free and single at the time and took an Internet date for an outing to my local RSPB (4th date, so it was progressing). We enjoyed some decent exercise meandering the pathways but what impacted her view on the activity most significantly was the feeling of well being, calmness and mindfulness that over came her when we stopped at various points so I could show her the birds I was watching.

Of course it is. For us on BF that is self evident ;)
It just annoys me that nowadays everything needs to serve a purpose to us. A social function, an economic function, etc. Why can't we just appreciate nature for its own sake? So I dislike it when a program like Springwatch/ Winterwatch focuses too much on these aspects. Of course I feel very happy for the people who do get mental health benefits out of it (which is probably all of us).
